In Carnuntum ist die Römerzeit keine weit entfernte Vergangenheit, sondern mit allen Sinnen erlebbare Gegenwart. Dazu wurde weltweit einmalig ein Teil eines römischen Stadtviertels am Originalstandort wiedererrichtet. Sehenswert sind auch die Amphitheater und das heutige Wahrzeichen von Carnuntum, das Heidentor.
